ImagineIT: Phase I
My goal is for students to see the beauty and elegance of mathematics in addition to its applications. In order to accomplish this, each student needs to take deep dives into each concept, putting the key concepts together to construct a solid foundation of understanding. In order to solidify and refine their understanding, the final step for each student is to share what they have learned with their peers.

Context/background for I-Video:
I have always tried to stress the beauty and elegance of mathematics in my classes. I wanted to play off this theme of diving deep into the beauty and elegance in my I-Image and continue it in my I-Video. The idea of climbing up a cliff resonates with me in that it requires carefully choosing where you grab onto with your hands and where you place your feet. I wanted to tie into the idea of sharing your knowledge with classmates with also inviting them on the next topic of discovery. Not only is it fun to learn new things for yourself, it is a great experience to be able to explain new things to others and it increases understanding in the person sharing. I want to focus this year on having students construct their own understanding of concepts. I will give them a framework to facilitate this but I will let them struggle more than I have in the past. When I thought of building/constructing their own understanding, I decided to use Legos to accomplish this. The only way to get the real effect of building piece by piece was to use individual pictures and then put them into a video. |
